The Jeffco Brass Ensemble, founded in 1997, is a brass double quintet of amateur musicians ranging an age span of over 60 years and widely diverse professional careers. The ensemble began as an adjunct ensemble within the Jeffco Community Band, founded in 1984.
The Jeffco Brass has performed for a wide array of audiences and functions ranging from special dedications, church worship services, recitals, theater events, anniversary and birthday parties, weddings, Masonic meetings, special fund-raising concerts, Graduation Ceremonies.
During the 1999 Christmas season the group was invited to tour in Italy. The ensemble joined with a local orchestra and choir and performed in several cities in Italy for the 1999 Jubilee Celebration Christmas season. The ensemble's 10-day tour of Italy featured performances in such magnificent venues as St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, St. Mary of the Angel's Basilica in Assisi, and St. Ignatius Basilica in Rome on Christmas Day.
They performed for over 9000 at the Easter sunrise service at Red Rocks Amphitheater in 2000. In addition, over 35 churches throughout Colorado have invited the Jeffco Brass to join their worship services, new church dedications, and special 100 year and 125 year church celebrations.(History).
They enjoyed performing at the inaugural act at the "hard hat concert" to open the spectacular Ellie Caulkins Opera House in 2005 at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. They have twice played at Coors Field and regularly performed in the annual July 4th parade and city picnic in Georgetown, Colorado.
Their music repertoire has expanded to include over 100 prepared musical selections, from which they can create a unique concert for varied events. These selections include hymns and other religious works, traditional and classical brass selections, Big Band arrangements, Dixieland, fanfares, polkas, and traditional marches.
The Jeffco Brass Ensemble's love of music is reflected in the quality of their performances. They have a lot of fun and their primary goal is to make sure the audience enjoys the music and has fun too.
Jeffco Community Band
The Jeffco Community Band was founded by Robert Hurrell in January of 1985 as a way for amateur adult musicians to rehearse their instruments and perform on a regular basis. The initial band had about 15 members and has grown to 90+ musicians over the 17 years of its existence. The band is open to all musicians, 18 years and older, regardless of playing ability. There are no auditions and they can always find a place for everyone.
The Jeffco Community Band meets every Thursday night from mid September to early December, and again from mid January to early May, from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Rehearsals are held at the Arvada United Methodist Church at 68th and Carr St. in Arvada. The band performs four free concerts a year: one in October, December, February, and May. Concerts are usually on Thursday nights.
